The city of Romeo & Juliet

Why Verona is the most romantic city name in the world to propose

Shakespeare set the greatest love story ever written here, and Verona lives up to it: rose-pink marble streets, a Roman arena, medieval bridges over the Adige and, of course, Juliet’s balcony. Few cities carry as much romance in their very name — and few make a more evocative stage for the word “yes”.

From the legendary balcony to a sunset viewpoint over the red rooftops, a Renaissance garden or the vineyards of Valpolicella just outside town, Verona blends history, wine and beauty. It is compact and walkable, and less overwhelmed than Venice or Florence — which makes the right spot at the right hour easy to enjoy with a local team.

Proposal in Italy, the marriage-proposal service by Kiss Me Italy, is a team of local planners and photographers who know Verona’s most romantic corners and its quietest, most golden hours. This guide covers the best places to propose in Verona, when to come, what it costs, and how to make it flawless. Nearby and gorgeous: our Lake Garda proposal guide.

Timing

When is the best time to propose in Verona?

The loveliest months are spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October): mild weather, golden light and thinner crowds than the summer opera-season peak. Verona is delightful year-round, with a quiet, atmospheric charm in winter and a magical Christmas market season.

Season Months Atmosphere For a proposal
Spring Apr – Jun Mild, blooming, long golden evenings Best
Summer Jul – Aug Warm and lively with the opera season; book early Book early
Autumn Sep – Oct Grape harvest in Valpolicella, warm tones, thinner crowds Best
Winter Nov – Mar Quiet and atmospheric; magical Christmas markets Intimate & private

Insider tip: the viewpoints and famous courtyards are most private at sunrise and the hour before sunset. Castel San Pietro at golden hour, or Juliet’s courtyard just after opening, gives you privacy and beautiful light. Tell us your dates and we’ll pinpoint the exact spot and minute.

Months What to expect Our verdict
April–June Gardens in bloom, mild evenings on the terraces The sweet spot
June–August Opera season fills the Arena — magical nights, busy days Plan around performance dates
September–October Valpolicella harvest, golden light on the rooftops The other sweet spot
November–January Quiet lanes, Christmas lights, “Verona in Love” approaching Cosy & intimate
February Valentine’s “Verona in Love” festival — the city dresses for romance On-theme, book far ahead

The best places to propose in Verona

From Juliet’s balcony to a sunset over the rooftops — each of these can be reserved, styled and quietly photographed by our local team.

The icon · Above the city

Castel San Pietro viewpoint

The classic Verona panorama: the red rooftops, the Roman arena and the Adige curling below, glorious at sunset. A short climb (or funicular) leads to the terrace — the most romantic viewpoint in the city for the big question.

Best for: couples who want the definitive Verona skyline at golden hour.

Legendary romance · Centro

Juliet’s House & balcony

The courtyard of Casa di Giulietta, with the world’s most famous balcony above. Endlessly romantic and symbolic — propose here in a quiet early slot, away from the daytime crowds, for a moment straight out of Shakespeare.

Best for: couples who love the story and the symbolism of Romeo & Juliet.

Garden romance · Veronetta

The Giusti Gardens

A perfect Renaissance garden of cypress avenues, statues and a hedge maze, with a belvedere overlooking the rooftops of Verona. Quiet, elegant and green — a beautiful, private place to kneel.

Best for: couples who want a formal garden and a view in one place.

Wine country · Valpolicella

A Valpolicella vineyard

Just outside the city, the hills of Valpolicella produce Amarone and ripasso. Arrange a private tasting at an estate and propose among the vines at golden hour — romance with a glass of great red in hand.

Best for: wine-loving couples who want countryside near the city.

Five-star dining · Terraces

A terrace dinner over the old city

Reserve a candlelit table on a rooftop or terrace overlooking Verona and propose as the old town lights up beneath you and the arena glows.

Best for: couples who dream of an elegant, romantic dinner setting.

More Verona spots worth knowing

Beyond these, our planners love the medieval Ponte Scaligero at Castelvecchio, the elegant Piazza dei Signori and Piazza delle Erbe at quiet hours, and the riverside walks along the Adige. For a grand gesture, a private box at an opera night in the Arena di Verona is unforgettable in summer.

Not sure which fits your story? Tell us the mood you’re after — the legendary balcony, a sunset viewpoint, a garden or a vineyard — and we’ll match you to the perfect corner of Verona. You can also build your proposal step by step and we’ll do the rest.

The practical guide

Planning your Verona proposal: everything else you need to know

How to get to Verona

Verona has its own airport (Villafranca), about 15 minutes from the centre; Venice and Milan-Bergamo are roughly 1–1.5 hours. Fast trains reach Verona Porta Nuova from across Italy. The old city is compact and walkable, so we arrange transfers only where needed.

Where to stay

For elegance, Palazzo Victoria, Due Torri and Hotel Gabbia d’Oro sit in the heart of the old town, a short walk from the best spots. Tell us where you’re staying and we’ll plan a spot within easy reach.

Permits, gardens & timing

Garden access, viewpoints, terraces and (in summer) opera tickets are best arranged in advance, and the famous courtyards are most private early. We handle reservations, permissions and coordination so everything runs to the minute. The balcony itself can be reserved for a private 10-minute exclusive — outside museum hours, with music, a photographer positioned in the courtyard below and the courtyard managed — but slots are few and sell out far ahead. Third-party balcony experiences start around €600 and climb quickly with extras; our package prices the exclusive slot, photographer, flowers and the after-toast together, agreed upfront.

Bringing the ring & travelling

Carry the ring in your hand luggage, never checked, in a slim case. EU arrivals have nothing to declare; travellers from outside the EU should note customs allowances on high-value goods. A discreet tip: carry the day-bag yourself so you can keep the ring close without suspicion.

Weather, privacy & a plan B

Summer heat and the odd storm can shift plans, so every plan includes a covered backup and a flexible time window. Our photographers work invisibly in the crowd so your partner suspects nothing.

Verona proposal — FAQ

How much does a marriage proposal in Verona cost?
Verona proposals are bespoke, priced on Kiss Me Italy’s transparent scale: from €650 for a Proposal Consultation and from €1,500 for an all-inclusive Signature proposal with a photographer included, up to €4,600+ for a luxury production. Every figure is a starting “from” — the final quote depends on your spot, season and add-ons.
Where is the best place to propose in Verona?
The most iconic view is Castel San Pietro; the most symbolic is Juliet’s balcony; the Giusti Gardens are elegant and private; and a Valpolicella vineyard adds wine-country romance. Message us and we’ll match your story to the perfect spot.
When is the best time of year to propose in Verona?
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer mild weather and thinner crowds. Sunrise and the hour before sunset are the most private and beautiful.
Is a photographer included?
Yes — a professional proposal photographer is included in every all-inclusive package. Video and drone (where permitted) are optional add-ons.
Can you keep it a complete surprise?
Absolutely. Our photographers blend into the crowd, we favour quiet early slots and private gardens, and your coordinator manages every detail so your partner never suspects a thing.
How far in advance should we book?
For spring, autumn and the summer opera season, book at least three months ahead. In winter, one month’s notice is usually enough.
How do we start?
Tap the green button to message Alessandra on WhatsApp with your dates and idea, or build your proposal step by step. You’ll get a tailored plan and quote within 24 hours.
Can you really propose on Juliet’s balcony?
Yes — the balcony of Casa di Giulietta can be reserved for a private exclusive of about ten minutes, typically outside normal museum hours, with the courtyard managed below. Slots are limited and book out weeks or months ahead; we secure the slot, brief the photographer in the courtyard and stage the music and flowers.
Is the courtyard of Juliet’s House too crowded for a surprise?
In the middle of the day, yes — it’s one of Verona’s busiest corners. That’s exactly why the reserved balcony exclusive exists, and why our alternative plans use Castel San Pietro at sunrise or the Giusti Gardens, where the romance is equal and the crowd isn’t.
What is “Verona in Love”?
Verona’s Valentine festival in mid-February: heart-shaped lights, concerts and events across the old town. It’s the most on-theme week of the year to propose in the city of Romeo and Juliet — and the busiest for venues, so plans need to be locked in early.
